Thursday 16th July - Bristol
Early morning launch from Ashton Court during a 'weather window' took the big red thing over the city in a NE direction, clear skies for the flight and a gentle landing near a fishing lake......owners very helpful with the recovery!
Tell me - is there a law that allows you to land where you need to? And what if you damage something when landing - like a field of wheat or crops for example - do you have special insurance for that?

ReplyDeleteOnly just noticed this comment!.....To answer the first question..Most landowners are happy for balloons to land(Quite exciting!) The NFU and British Balloon and Airship Club(BBAC) have a liason set up, and farmers can register to have their land marked as no land zones, as can any landowner. Obviously if there is an emergency in the air then the pilot will land at the nearest safe spot. Secondly, all pilots have to have insurance cover for any damge to land, fences or property, being covered for an absolute minimum of £250,000.....most pilots have insurance well in excess of this. The insurance also covers livestock. Hope that covers it.
Cheers
